My drain is clogged, what can I do?

If you’re searching for a drain cleaning service in Tempe or nearby, your drains are probably not in the best shape. Whether you have a bathroom or kitchen drain that’s draining slowly or not draining at all, it can be frustrating to wait on a clogged drain.

In any case, Cure All Plumbing offers the best in professional drain cleaning for the Greater Phoenix areas.

Types of Drain Cleaning Techniques

While drain clearing is a regular part of our everyday job, this isn’t the case for most. As a result, many people aren’t aware of the existing options for drain cleaning or what type is needed. Below, we’ve shared our most common drain clearing techniques so that you can get an idea of what you’re up against and how we’ll help.

Hydro Jetting

One effective way to clean a drain is called hydro jetting. Hydro jetting is, as it sounds, the process of sending jet streams of water at high velocities through clogged water pipes. This process thoroughly cleans the inside of the pipes, and is often used for clearing clogs and solving other water pressure issues. The process is simple: A plumber uses a hydrojet, or hydro jetting machine, working upstream through the pipes, allowing any debris, grease, or other blockage to flow back downstream and out when draining. Before hydro jetting anything, our plumbers will perform a thorough inspection of your pipes and home to ensure that it’s the right solution for the situation. If this inspection isn’t performed, a plumber runs the risk of increasing damage to your plumbing system. For example, tree roots can often cause blockage and damage far down a drain line, and if a plumber were to try hydro jetting a line like this, they could no doubt cause broken drain lines and other, more complex issues. As a result, be sure to hire expert plumbers like our team members here at Cure All Plumbing.

Drain Snaking

A more traditional method of clearing drains, drain snaking uses a flexible, wound metal line with a corkscrew tip created to physically break up the contents blocking a drain line. This metal line is called, not surprisingly, a drain snake or an auger. When it comes to snaking a drain, there are a handful of options available. In its simplest form, a drain snake is simply a metal drum which holds a variable amount of line to be inserted into a drain, and a hole through which the line is released. Some augers have up to 100 feet of metal line, making it possible to find a clog far beyond the drain itself.

One particular type of snake is the toilet auger.

This type of plumbing snake is designed to reach only through the toilet itself, thus using only about three feet of line. Unlike other snakes, a toilet auger focuses its efforts on a largely aesthetic part of the bathroom – the toilet. For this reason, it also often comes with a rubber or foam coating, so as not to scratch the inside of your toilet.
