My drain is backing up, does my sewer line have a problem?

Having issues with your sewer line? Let’s take a look with a Sewer Scope Inspection

Are you experiencing drain blockage or drains that are backing up? Finding the problem within your sewer line is the first step to determining if you can benefit from sewer line repair all together. It may seem like no easy task to find what could be obstructing your pipes or where the line may be broken. Professional plumbers, like those at Cure All Plumbing, have the right tools and advanced technology to diagnose sewer line issues easy, fast and accurate. How do our certified plumbers go about this task? We utilize the help of sewer line scopes or camera inspections!

Do You Need A Sewer Scope?

A sewer scope camera inspection helps to determine the condition of your sewer line and how it is functioning. Sewer scope inspections consist of a mini camera being inserted into your property’s sewer line through what we call the clean out. The clean out can usually be found in your basement, outside of the home or in a designated crawl space. The mini camera acts as a scope that can travel through the inside of the sewer line piping to find the location of the problem at hand and how bad it may be.

What are common sewer line obstructions or problems?

  • Cracks

  • Holes

  • Pooling Issues

  • Tree/Plant Root Invasion

  • Separation of Piping

Sewer scope inspections are able to find issues before they become bigger problems or a need for all-out sewer line replacements.

Knowing When To Repair or Replace Your Sewer Line

First we need to look at what kind of material was used to construct your line and the overall condition the line is in. If it is made up of out dated older materials and shows significant wear & tear, a professional plumber will generally suggest you opt for sewer line replacement.

Another factor to consider is where the trouble spots are located along the sewer line and how many of these spots there are. If there are one or two trouble spots the line can usually be repaired. However, if there are several spots that need repair or attention, a professional plumber will determine if the sewer line needs to be replaced altogether. When you replace your sewer line, all new piping is installed making it stronger and more durable. Nowadays there is technology that allows for trenchless sewer line repair, or repairs that do not require the removal of concrete, driveways or obstructions.

There are different ways to replace a sewer line, especially when taking into account the layout and landscaping of your yard/property. No one wants to completely wreck their yard or professional landscaping when removing an old line and replacing it with a new one. We specialize in trenchless sewer line repair, which requires minimal excavation and provides a cost effective solution. Using Cured In Place Pipe Lining, a new pipe can be created without needing to do a huge dig out. Traditional Sewer Line Replacement

This involves excavating the entire damaged sewer line and replacing the older line with new plastic ABS piping. This type of sewer line replacement is suggested for those who are planning to redo their landscaping or those that don’t have landscaped yards or any type of obstacle to go around.

Trenchless Sewer Repair

Trenchless repair or sewer line replacement may be the best way to go about replacing a damaged sewer line when a lot of landscape is involved. It can also prove to be the most cost effective for this type of scenario. What are some common landscape obstacles that may require trenchless sewer line replacement?

  • Driveways

  • Retaining Walls

  • Mature Trees & Other Plants

  • Yard structures like gazebos, large boulders, in ground fire pits etc.

  • Electric/Utility Materials

How is trenchless sewer line replacement done?

First, plumbers start by digging a small whole on either side of the sewer line, one where the sewer line goes in/out of your home and a second hole where the sewer line meets the street. A special type of drilling equipment is then used to create an area between these two joints. New lines or pipes are installed and connections are made to connect the joint from your home to the joint found where the sewer line meets the street. This procedure allows for landscaped areas to stay in tact and greatly reduces the needs for excavating and other large holes being made.

As licensed, bonded and insured plumbers, we specialize in trenchless repairs and are Perma-Liner Certified Plumbers.
